A master bath, in a historic 1890’s Victorian home, was due for an update.

The toilet, positioned next to the entry door, was relocated for privacy, along with a steam shower which now includes a small window above the bench seat allowing in natural light. An outdated whirlpool tub monopolizing the turret space was replaced with a free-standing William Holland, tin-enamel tub, custom-sized, hand-made and shipped in from England.

Efficiency and high functionality were goals, the aesthetic needed to exude quality and timelessness. The ultimate desire was hands-on casual luxury. Space was restricted with no option of expansion; every inch was precisely thought out.

The hallway was widened 6” for additional vanity space. Two separate areas were designated to host the shower-toilet and the master closet, both with hidden pocket doors.

Uneven, century-old flooring and crooked walls with multiple angles posed challenges that took patience and mathematical skill to overcome. Weight distribution and floor reinforcement were always in consideration. Plumbing was re-routed, and the electrical is now state-of-the-art. Beautiful marble tile in classic Carrara, was hauled up two flights of steep stairs and meticulously installed on the floor and in the toilet/shower area.

A custom walnut vanity with quartz counter top holds two round inset sinks, Waterworks faucets, and a flip-top make-up area with mirror designed specifically for the user.

Dated light sconces and old blinds were removed from the turret. Dark, rich, custom walnut panels replaced a light stained pine surround adding drama and a richness to the space. A new wood ceiling provided the optimal location to showcase an expansive Ralph Lauren crystal chandelier. A motorized lift mechanism offers ease of maintenance and cleaning. (Note: chandelier was lowered for photography purposes.)

The “heart” of this space is a rare antique-find, a Tiffany stained-glass window, found half way across the country. This special addition needed to fit the inside space, as well as, the outside appearance. This gem was cautiously inset over the vanity and then backlit from the outside, to showcase its vibrant colors. Venetian mirrors and Visual Comfort wall sconces flank each side.

This new space is the essence of efficiency and functionality, meeting all needs and desires. Its special and unique details provide beauty and timelessness, delivering an everlasting elegance for years to come.
